Science Museum

A Science museum where Abu Dhabi’s greatest minds can gather, showcase their Scientific and Technological work to visitors, and celebrates their initiatives and achievements ranging from culture, architecture and design, to entertainment, sports and nature.

In addition to highlighting Abu Dhabi’s greatest achievements, it will act as a regional hub for entrepreneurs and education professionals as part of a vision to establish a science center that caters to the futuristic technology-based incubation offices, start-ups and ‘pod’ offices, and attract tourists from around the world.

The design is inspired by cells, the smallest unit that multiples to create life forms, and the biological construction of our body in microscope level to reflect me, my city, my world and to the universe.

This concept also gives the flexibility for various spatial arrangements and exploration opportunities for the individual visitor.

By composing the different cells, the space includes surprising corners that not only represent the different programs but also give different characteristics to the space, which attracts the visitors and creates an engaging events space within the inner-self and outer environment.

The reflective façade material is created from a combination of MERO system and ETFE; other materials that are used are glass and stainless steel. The design simulates a 3D molecules structure to shade the central open space and provide skylights.

The playful cell-like massing creates connections and penetrations which respond to the program and is accessible by all visitors, regardless of mobility abilities.

Designed to feel high tech, modern and equipped with the latest amenities that are necessary for the three ‘e’s – a leader in visitor engagement, entertainment and education.

Some of the highlighted features include exhibition spaces and galleries with content ranging from basic physics phenomenon to health and space science to natural resource exploration, a central atrium gathering space, and a planetarium that offers immersive experiences for visitors.
